Prayer: The example and teaching of Jesus Christ       Download     Print

In the gospel [Injeel] we find much evidence that Jesus Christ was a praying person. There is mention of him spending all night communicating with the Father in heaven. He did that especially before making important decisions e.g. before he chose his twelve disciples; and on other important occasions. He demonstrated that he fully trusted in his Father in heaven, and did nothing without the Father’s will and consent.

Luke 6: 12, 13: Now it came to pass in those days that he went to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called his disciple to himself; and from them he chose twelve whom he also named apostles.

In this next passage we see the results of such prayer life; what a marvelous demonstration of God’s power, and His compassion for hurting humanity. These things happened immediately after Jesus came down from the mountain where he prayed all night, then he chose his disciples, and launched out on his mission.

Luke 6: 17 -19: And he came down with then and stood on a level place with a crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and be healed of their diseases, as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch him, for power went out from him and healed them all.

Through such communications Jesus expressed his desires and wishes before the Father, but most importantly he listened to the Father continuously to receive the Father’s directives for his mission on earth, which included the following:

  • to fulfill/do the will of God on earth as it is done in heaven.

  • to bring the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.

  • to open the door of salvation and redemption for all mankind.

  • to provide 100% SURE Forgiveness of sin, NOW, and for eternity - GUARANTEED.

  • to live a sinless, blameless, and righteous life in this world so he can be a perfect Savior for us.

  • to reconcile us to God –make peace between God and mankind. Our sin separated us from God and made us His enemies yet God never stopped loving us and His love for us was the reason why He gave his very best, Jesus Christ, for us sinners while we were still His enemies.

  • to destroy the works of the devil from the lives of people and from all creation.

  • to reverse the curse that came on mankind and on all creation due to sin and rebellion.

  • to destroy the power of death, and the power of the devil who chose to be the agent of death.

  • to help us return to our heavenly Father through personal relationship with Him in Jesus Christ.

Jesus paid undivided attention to the Father’s directives, and the leading of God’s Holy Spirit in all his decisions, actions, teachings, etc. An integral part of his mission on earth was to perfect obedience to the Father even through sacrifice, suffering, pain, and shame [to reverse the effect of Adam’s disobedience and the death curse associated with that].

Jesus Christ lived a righteous life without any sin in his life and he handled his life with prayer.

Different People express their thoughts about prayer in words like these:

  • “Life is fragile, handle with prayer

  • Prayer changes things”

  • “The family that prays together stays together”

  • “In a believer’s life Prayer is like breathing”

  • Prayer is communication with God, it should be two-way conversation”

  • “When we pray we declare that our faith is in God and we depend on Him for everything”

  • “Through prayer we invite, welcome, and accept divine intervention in our affairs”

  • Prayer coupled with Praise and Worship brings us into the glorious presence of the Lord, the Bible tells us: In the presence of the Lord is the fullness of Joy; also, the Joy of the Lord is our strength.” Now  - that is really powerful!

[Prayer is a big topic in the Bible, however, we will mention just a few verses]

Here are some passages from the Bible regarding prayer:

King David, [Dawood Nabi] a prophet of God, received this inspired word from God’s Holy Spirit which is written in Psalm [zabur] 55: 16 – 17

“As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.” [Ayub Nabi] Job 16 : 17

Although no violence is in my hands, and my prayer is pure.

King Solomon [Suleman Nabi] prayed and God answered:  2 Chronicles 7 : 12 – 15

Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.”

A big question asked by many :

Did Jesus teach his followers how to pray?

[What these enquirers are referring to is: Did Jesus give his followers a set of rules, rituals, or religious practice of praying in a prescribed manner?]

[So we look at the testimony of the Bible to see the eyewitness account of people who were with Jesus during his time of ministry on earth – these witnesses state the words that Jesus (who is the Living Word of God - His Truth) spoke on this matter. Whatever the witnesses wrote was inspired by the Spirit of God who is the actual author of all Scripture found in the Bible].

Jesus Christ [Isa al-Masih] taught in this manner - Matthew 5 : 43 – 44

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ “But I say to you, love your enemies,

bless those who curse you,

do good to those who hate you, and

pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”

These were not some fancy clichés by a famous charismatic person who wanted to be popular. These words were his life-style - he lived for those principles even to the end.

The genuineness of his life-style and commitment is revealed when he hung on the cross - he forgave all who falsely accused him, bribed people to bear false witness against him, mocked him, betrayed him, did injustice to him, tortured him, spat on him, sought to kill him, demanded his crucifixion, condemned him to death, nailed him to the cross.

Another important passage from Matthew chapter 26 must be mentioned here to show Jesus’ true commitment to his own teachings and mission. We also see here what kind of power was at his disposal if he would choose to use it, and we also see how Father God would answer his prayer, if he had asked for it.

This is an incident before the arrest of Jesus, his disciple Peter pulls out a sword and attacks one person in the arresting party. Jesus stops him from doing that and heals/restores the chopped off ear of the hurt person; by doing that Jesus also prevents the arrest or slaying of Peter at the hands of the soldiers. Jesus is not looking to prevent his own arrest, trial, crucifixion – he knows all of those must happen, and through those events the plan and purpose of God would be fulfilled i.e., THE SALVATION OF ALL MANKIND and the destruction of devil’s dark kingdom including death.

Matthew 26: 52 – 56, But Jesus said to him [to Peter], “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to my Father, and He will provide me with more than twelve legions of angels? [one legion = 6000]

How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”

In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize me. But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.”

Jesus was faithful to the mission, faithful to the plan of God. He faithfully carried out the plan of salvation. He did what God had revealed in the Scriptures through His true prophets from the beginning.

Jesus is called the Prince of Peace - he was on a peace mission:

to make peace between mankind and God Almighty.

Jesus practiced what he preached, And he preached what he practiced. Jesus Christ teaches his followers ‘how to Pray’

Matthew 6: 5 – 15, “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.”

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.”

“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore pray:

Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

This same incident is mentioned in Luke 11: 1 – 4, Now it came to pass, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, that one of the disciples said to him, “Lord teach us to pray, as John [John the Baptist a.k.a. Yahiya Nabi] also taught his disciples.” So he said to them, “when you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name, …………………………Amen.

This prayer, commonly known as the ‘Lord’s Prayer,’ has been called by some the ‘Disciple’s Prayer,’ since Jesus taught it to all his followers/disciples for all times.

This prayer is in fact a prayer outline with some major topics of great importance. e.g.

[this example is just a small part of the full meaning of this prayer]

First and foremost is the opening statement “Our Father – in heaven,” it is relational; Jesus the Messiah came to reconcile us to our heavenly Father. It also points to the fact that there is one God, the One who is in heaven and our prayer/petition is before Him. There is no other God in heaven except the only true living God, His name is Yahweh Elohim, El-Shaddai, Adonai, I AM THAT I AM, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

So we say, “God we put our trust in You, we believe in You, we ask You, we come to receive from You, for You are our source, and You are our Father, we are Your children.” Jesus has made it possible for us to call Him Abba, Father. This relationship gives us all the necessary confidence and assurance that our petitions will be granted because of the love the Father has for us His children.

Secondly, we declare our heavenly Father is Holy, and we praise Him and honor Him as we enter into His presence bringing our prayers/petitions. We worship Him and adore Him for He alone is worthy of all praise and glory.

Thirdly, we declare our heavenly Father is the King of the Universe. Everything [including us], belongs to Him, and He truly loves us and cares for us.

We say, “Your Kingdom [King’s dominion = Kingdom] come” – we ask for the establishment of God’s rule [not only in the millennium rule of Christ] even now in the lives of all people, in all situations, and in all nations. In such asking and desiring we agree with God’s original plan in which the King gave man dominion over his creation on earth so He can rule through His vicegerent.

Fourthly, “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Everyone expects that God is a perfect being, and He is all powerful and mighty. His will is perfect, His abode which is heaven, is perfect. There is no death, sickness, sin, injustice, hatred, malice, evil, murder, slander, strife, division, or anything imperfect in heaven since He is the perfect boss of heaven and everything runs the way He decides and desires. He rules and reigns in heaven absolutely.

Now, is there anything wrong with asking that God’s perfect will be done on earth and especially in our lives and in all matters pertaining to life?

Well, if man did not mess up things by rebellion and disobedience then ‘His perfect will’ would be all over the place. Jesus taught us to pray for ‘His will to be done on earth as it is done in heaven,’ he wants us to agree with the Father’s original plan for us. God is really a good God and He only desires good for us. His will is good for us, and He has expressed His will through His Living Word who came in the flesh i.e., Jesus Christ of Nazareth. His will is also with us in written form in the Holy Bible.

In this prayer we also acknowledge that God is our provider, our source, and we rely on Him day to day. He is with us always, every day, He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Hence our request for daily needs is before Him only.

Furthermore, Jesus wanted us to know that it is important for us to walk in forgiveness and freely forgive others as our heavenly Father has forgiven us through Christ Jesus. That is why this part of the prayer takes a conditional tone. Jesus made it clear that God has freely forgiven us and we must also freely forgive those who have trespassed against us. If we are unforgiving towards others that could hinder our spiritual life and our prayer life in a drastic way.

It is also a reminder that we do not deserve the forgiveness extended to us by God. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and NOT by our own works of righteousness OR by our PIETY. Our piety or our good works do not compare with the righteousness of God which He gave us initially BUT we lost that image and likeness of God when we fell in sin.

It is written in the BIBLE :

  • “ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD.”

  • “OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS IS LIKE FILTHY RAGS.”

  • “THERE IS NONE RIGTHEOUSNESS, NOT EVEN ONE.”

  • “THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH, BUT THE FREE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.”

Only by the grace of God [which is unmerited favor of God] we are saved, forgiven and accepted in the Kingdom of God – something we do not deserve at all!

Only by the grace of God we are saved from the wrath and judgment of Almighty God; we escape eternal death, which is spiritual death; we are spared the everlasting agony and misery in hell and in the lake of fire and brimstone – those we really deserved due to our rebellion, sinfulness, wickedness, and unrighteousness!

But, someone has paid the price for us to be forgiven, spared and saved. He took the wrath and Judgment of God upon himself, this person paid the penalty in full, he took all the punishment including spiritual death for our sake. His name is Jesus Christ. That is the [just] reason for our forgiveness – it is a free gift of God for those who believe, for those who agree with His plan; it is His gift for those who agree with, and accept what He has done by His infinite wisdom and by His awesome power because of His mighty Love for us.

Furthermore, in this prayer we commit our lives in the loving and caring hands of our heavenly Father to deliver us from temptations. He provides the grace and the power we need to overcome all temptations and to overcome the power of Satan from our lives and surroundings.

As we continue to pray, we take refuge in our heavenly Father, we hide in Him and are safe from the schemes of the evil one. There are verses in the Bible which confirm this, e.g.

  • “We are hidden in God with Christ Jesus.”

  • “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

  • “Since God be for us who can be against us.”

Some Churches sing this song: “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into Him and they are safe.”

Towards the closing of this prayer, once again we acknowledge God’s awesomeness. Through these words we declare His majesty, His power, and glory, forever. We express lots of praise and adoration for this King, for our dear heavenly Father. He is all in all, He is everything. Without Him - we are nothing!  Amen – [so be it.  Or, It is done]

NOW - Who said Jesus didn’t teach his followers how to pray??!!!??

May God have mercy on you and may God help you if you think so!

Wait - there is more! [Again, following are the words of Jesus regarding prayer/praying]

Matthew 7: 7 – 11, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

  • “Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?”

  • “Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?”

  • “If you then, being evil, know how to give goods gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

While teaching about ‘Prayer’ Jesus revealed the secret of success in prayer : ‘FAITH’

Mark 11: 22 – 24, So Jesus answered and said to them, “HAVE FAITH IN GOD.”

“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast in the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”

“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Faith is the MASTER KEY that releases the resources of heaven into our situation.

Hebrews 11: 6, But without faith it is impossible to please HIM, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

While teaching about ‘Prayer’ Jesus emphasized the importance of “FORGIVENESS.”

Mark 11: 25 – 26, “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

[Jesus taught the same concept to his disciples in the prayer in Matthew chapter 6]

Jesus gave believers the password for ANSWERED prayers – ‘HIS OWN NAME - JESUS’

John 14: 12 – 14, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father. And whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.”

John 16: 23, 24: “And in that day you will ask me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

Before the soldiers came to arrest Jesus, he was in the garden of Gethsemane praying. God’s holy angel was there to encourage him for the great mission of saving the whole world, however, his disciples were tired and fell asleep. Jesus instructed them in the following words:

In Matthew 26: 41, “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

In John Chapter 17 Jesus prayed for himself, for his disciples, and for all believers who would believe in him. This chapter is highly recommended for reading to any person who believes in Jesus Christ regardless of their level of understanding about him. Same say he is only a Prophet, some consider him mere human, others believe he is much more than that. In any case please read this chapter for yourself; it is our prayer that God will help you understand much more than what you know now. Actually, all the gospel accounts help a lot in getting a better and clearer picture about the personality, life-style, and teachings of Jesus. It is our duty to search for the Truth.

Mankind is called the crown of creation according to some faiths and their sacred writings. That means clearly - mankind has been given a brain for thinking, God would not give mankind a brain with all the intelligence and brilliance if He did not want mankind to think for themselves, and to search for the truth to know the truth. It is the duty of every person with a brain to examine the evidence and not follow stories and fables which have no truth in them.

When one begins to search for the truth the Spirit of God who is the Spirit of Truth [according to Jesus] comes to the help of that person in seeking and finding the Truth.

The prayer of Jesus for all Believers:

John 17: 20 – 26, “ I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent me. And the glory which You gave me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one; I in them, and You in me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent me, and have loved them as You have loved me. Father I desire that they also whom You gave me may be with me where I am, that they may behold my glory which You have given me; for You loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Useful tips for believers’ Prayer life:

[quotes from. ‘Praying God’s Word’ by Dr. Ed Dufresne,-  Whitaker House, 1982].

The Word of God and the practice of prayer must be foremost in our lives and something that we look forward to and enjoy every day. Prayer should be the most enjoyable part of our day because it is the time that we visit with the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Just being in the presence of God changes us. There is peace and tranquility that surrounds and flows from us which even others can sense.

Every Christian should develop his own prayer life and daily set aside a certain time to visit the Father. Doing this is a key to a victorious walk with God.

 Simple facts about Prayer:

[quotes from, ‘Dear God…Prayer Book’ by Rev. Dr. Michael Relton, 2002]

We need to realize that God is very important in our lives. And the only way we can access God is through prayer. Many of us realize that, but unfortunately in spite of our desire to pray and for God to answer our prayers, there is a chasm caused by not understanding the dynamics and principles of prayer. This only causes frustration and discouragement to many.

Prayer is a powerful force. If utilized properly in our lives after understanding the laws under which it operates, it will be very easy to enjoy a prayer life with results following. Some of those laws are as follows:

Prayer is answered only whey you pray to a Living God.

  • That God must have more power and capability than you to help you.

  • He must be willing to help you in time of need.

  • He must be available when you need Him.

  • You must have testimonies of others to substantiate that God’s ability.

  • The God of the Bible qualifies far above these laws.

Benefits of Prayer:

  • Prayer solves problems

  • Prayer gives calmness over anxiety and worry

  • Prayer brings peace of mind

  • Divine guidance is obtained in prayer

  • Life is positive and full of confidence by prayer

  • Prayer is the greatest relaxing therapy in the world!

  • It is a lot easier to glide over life’s bumps with prayer

 Effective praying

For effective prayer, you must cultivate a habit of daily prayer. Along with prayer in the morning and evening, you also must read the Bible, where God has given the promises to help you in your prayers. Prayers based on God’s promises are sure to bring results and also keep you from praying prayers against God’s will. God’s word is also your spiritual food to sustain the spiritual part of your being.

 Pray without ceasing [1Thessalonians 5: 17]

The Bible teaches that we should pray without ceasing. This means we can be in an attitude of prayer all day. You can pray for people around you on the road, at your work, etc. You can pray for different situations. You can pray without ceasing like that, it will keep you very happy all day!

 Principles of Prayer

  • Always begin your prayers with Worship, that is praising and thanking God for what He has already blessed you with and done for you. Follow the pattern of the Lord’s prayer.

  • Keep you hearts clean from unforgiveness, ill feelings, grudges, etc.

  • Pray with expectation

  • Conclude the prayer with hope and trust that God will answer

  • Base your prayers on God’s promises

 Different Kinds of Prayers

Just like there are many tools to do a job there are different kinds of prayers to meet different needs.

  • Daily Devotional prayer time: This is for personal, spiritual well being, to live a Godly life. God loves the time you spend with Him, by honoring Him first thing in the morning and last thing when you go to sleep.

  • Prayer throughout the Day: Maintaining an attitude of prayer during the course of the day. An example could be: praying for someone at work silently in your heart.

  • Group Prayer: This is done in the church or in a home by concerned people for fellowship or for a certain purpose.

  • Fasting and Prayer: This is done both individually and as a group. This is also done for difficult situations.

  • All-night Prayer meetings: for certain crisis situations [as in Acts 12 when Peter was in Jail].

 Reasons for Un-answered Prayers:

  • Praying against God’s will [James 4: 3]

  • Praying with a wrong attitude

  • Living in deliberate sin

  • God’s timing is not quite right

  • When you hold a grudge or ill feeling towards someone (unforgiveness)

  • When you have disobeyed God’s explicit command

  • When you are ill-treating someone – wife, neighbor, colleague, etc.

  • Praying to an idol or a god of man’s  imagination, not the God of the Bible

Lastly, the amazing thing about prayer is that God remembers our prayers, even after we are dead. The prayers for our children, loved ones, or anything we prayed for, according to His will, will be answered after we are gone. God never forgets our prayers.

Talking with God

[quotes from, “Greater Intimacy with our Creator” by Robert Eldredge Sr.- Choice Publications LLC, 2005]

Prayer is simply having a conversation with God. And just as there are a multitude of different kinds of conversations between different people, there are also different kinds of conversations we can have with our God.

  • Prayer of petition: This is when we ask our Father in Jesus name for our needs and desires.

  • Prayer of Faith: This is when we believe, declare, and act upon what God has already revealed to be His will.

  • Prayer of confession: This is when we acknowledge and confess what we know to be the truth from God’s perspective.

  • Prayer of Intercession: This is when we intercede [stand in the gap for others] in prayer for the needs and desires of others.

  • Prayer of Communion: This is when we abide in His presence and have close and intimate fellowship with Him.

  • Prayer of Thankfulness: This is when we gratefully express our sincere appreciation for all that He has done for us.

  • Prayer of Praise: This is when we express our admiration of Him and His mighty deeds with our words, singing, and musical instruments.

  • Prayer of Worship: This is when we express the most intense love and adoration of Him that comes form the emotions in our hearts.

  • Non-verbal Prayer: This is how we are able to “pray without ceasing” by communing with Him in the thoughts of our minds.

 Heavenly Help sent by Jesus

Jesus promised that he will ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit [the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of Promise], to be with us and to be in us and to come upon us. He said the Holy Spirit will be with us always and forever. Jesus said, “I will not leave you orphans.” The Spirit of God will come to comfort us, help us, lead us into all Truth, help us know the Truth [be joined to the Truth, be one with it], teach us, empower us, anoint us. Even in the area of prayer the Holy Spirit helps us in a Big way:

Romans 8: 26, 27 : Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Freedom from Anxiety -  Peace of Mind beyond measure.

The Spirit of God gave His word through the Apostles of God for believers. These are holy Scriptures written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The real author is the Spirit of God, the Apostles were only scribes writing what they were given.

Philippians 4: 6, 7: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by Prayer and Supplication, with Thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

 Pray for all People

(Not just for people of your own faith only – God loves and cares for all people, He created them)

1 Timothy 2: 1 – 6; &  v. 8:  Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men [people], for kings, and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God or Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Maintain your life with God:

Jude v. 20, 21: But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Prayer of Faith – Meeting specific needs

James 5: 13 – 18, Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

Lord God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and all creation, I am your handiwork, and I desire to know your truth; have mercy on me, forgive me my sins and all transgression, show me your truth, open the eyes of my heart and my mind to understand and know what you have revealed.

Is Jesus the Messiah, really who he says he is in the Bible? Please Lord in your mercy and grace remove all doubt and confusion from my mind and help me to know the whole truth about Jesus. I claim to believe in him, my faith cannot be complete without believing in him fully. I do not want to believe half truth about him or about You God – please help me, give me a dream, or a vision, or some sign; Jesus is a sign – show me the sign in its fullness so my faith can be truly complete and solid. I believe you have heard my prayer, now I expect an answer, please send me an answer soon. I will be patient and wait for your answer. Thank you very much: Amen.
